Body Patterns

This section shows representations of quill patterns such as pinto and snowflake.

Minimal Snowflake

Minimal Snowflake Hedgehog
Less than 30% of the quills are solid white and evenly distributed across the body; with the remainder being banded.
Pictured is a Grey Snowflake.

Average Snowflake

Snowflake Hedgehog
30%-55% of the quills are solid white and evenly distributed across the body; with the remainder being banded.
Pictured is a Dark Brown Snowflake.

High Snowflake

High Snowflake Hedgehog
60%-75% of the quills are solid white and evenly distributed across the body; with the remainder being banded.
Pictured is a Dark Brown High Snowflake.

White (highest snowflake)

White or Double White Hedgehog (not to be confused with Leucistic or Total Pinto)
80%-100% of the quills are solid white; with few (or no) quills being banded.  The face, ears and limbs may be marked with the base color.
Pictured is a Grey White.

Minimal Pinto

Minimal Pinto Hedgehog
Pinto (white) markings on 10%-25% of the body.
Pictured is a Dark Grey Minimal Pinto.

Average Pinto

Average Pinto Hedgehog
Pinto (white) markings on 30%-45% of the body.
Pictured is a Medium Brown Minimal Snowflake Average Pinto.

High Pinto

High Pinto Hedgehog
Pinto markings on 50%-65% of the body.
Pictured is a Dark Grey High White Pinto with pinto face.

Reverse Pinto

Reverse Pinto Hedgehog
Pinto markings on 70%-99% of the body.  Eyes are typically deep ruby but may be black.
Pictured is a Grey Reverse Pinto with pinto face.

 

Total Pinto

Total Pinto or 100% Pinto Hedgehog (not to be confused with Leucistic or Double White)
Pinto markings on 99%-100% of the body. Face is completely white. Eyes are black or garnet.

Facial Patterns

This section shows representations of facial markings.

Classic Mask

Classic Mask
The mask is solid and extends from the nose to the eye area.  Eye patches may or may not be present

Pinto Face (No Mask)

Hedgehog with Total Pinto Face
The face is completely marked pinto and there is no base colored mask at all.

Half Mask or Split Face

Hedgehog with Half Mask, Split Mask or Split Face
One half of the face is pinto (white) and the other half is masked with the hedgehog’s base color.
These terms refers to hedgehogs with an even, 50/50 split.

Partial Mask

Hedgehog with Partial Mask
Uneven, broken or small patches of pinto markings across the face that clearly disrupt the classic mask pattern.
Pinto or Partial Masked refers to hedgehogs with no less than 10% pinto marking in the mask.

Partial Blaze

Hedgehog with Partial Blaze
The classic mask pattern is broken by a white stripe that extends from the forehead toward the nose, but not to the nose.
Partial Blaze must extend at least 20% into the mask and can be slightly off-center.

Full Blaze

The classic mask pattern is completely broken down the center by a white stripe that extends from the forehead to the nose.  Can be slightly off-center but must extend fully to the nose.

Eye Rings

Distinct circle(s) of base coloring around the eye(s) while the remainder (or most) of the face is pinto marked.
Eye Patch must be clearly defined and separate from any portion of mask that may be visible.

Raccoon Eyes

Classic mask with a clear break between the mask and eye patches.  Broken mask with less than 30% pinto is acceptable.
Note: Broken mask with more than 30% pinto is Eye Ring or Eyeliner category.

Mono Badger

Classic mask with a single stripe, wide or narrow, in the center of the forehead extending from the mask into the quill line.

Dual Badger

Hedgehog with Dual Badger Stripes
Classic mask with two equal stripes in the center of the forehead extending from the mask into the quill line.

Tri Badger

Hedgehog with Tri Badger Stripes
Classic mask with a single stripe in the center of the forehead and a single stripe above each eye extending from the mask into the quill line.

Quad Badger

Hedgehog with Quad Badger Stripes
Classic mask with two equal stripes in the center of the forehead and a single stripe above each eye extending from the mask into the quill line.
